Undergraduate Research Experience Program (UREP)

UREP is a research-based community internship program that provides hands-on research experience in K-12 classroom settings for undergraduate students in the social sciences. UREP is specifically designed for undergraduate students interested in pursuing graduate degrees in the behavioral sciences. UREP participants complete a comprehensive 16- week internship assignment which includes training in classroom management, instruction, curriculum design, research methodology, statistical analysis, project management and grant writing. UREP students are placed in their local school system where they work closely with students, teachers, and parents to deliver high-quality, evidence-based programs and workshops while sharpening their own research skills as future academic professionals. 

PROGRAM BENEFITS

UREP participants enhance their academic and research skills by working in a supervised after-school program in a local K–12 school district. Participants gain valuable experience, giving them a competitive advantage as a graduate school applicant, including:

  • GRE Prep

  • Human Subjects Research Ethics Certification

  • Grant Proposal Writing Training

  • Quantitative and Qualitative Data Collection & Analysis

  • Certificate of Completion and Graduate School Letter of Rec-ommendation

  • Course Credit Towards Graduation (where applicable)

PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY

  • Students wishing to participate in UREP must:

  • Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher (4.0 scale)

  • Be a citizen or a permanent resident of the U.S.

  • Be enrolled in a degree-granting program at a college or university in the United States, Puerto Rico, or other U.S. territory

  • Have completed at least two semesters of undergraduate education by the time of the UREP experience

UREP participants are expected to complete 10 hours of research each week. Participants must be willing to devote sufficient time and energy to the program during the sixteen week session. UREP is not for students pursuing professional degrees such as law, medical, and MBA degrees. Students who have already completed an undergraduate degree are not eligible.
